Wednesday Finale Recap

Wednesday Finale Recap: It’s safe to say that Wednesday on Netflix is a huge success. Since its first episode on November 23, Jenna Ortega’s Addams family spinoff has gained many fans. How big is it? Deadline says that the show is the third most popular on the streaming service, right after Stranger Things and Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story.

I’m not surprised, to be honest. Wednesday is very, very good, to put it simply. The series draws you in with likeable characters, a viral dance routine, and mind-blowing plot twists that will make you wonder if Wednesday has ever heard the saying, “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.” Speaking of that, did you see the end? The episode, now available to stream, had a lot of shocking news and sad moments. Here are the things I learned from seeing the chaos happen.

Wednesday Finale Recap

This season is about Wednesday’s first year at Nevermore and a string of murders in the area that no one seems to understand. In the last episode, the results of her investigation are shown to be very bad.

It starts with Wednesday confronting Tyler Galphin, a townie who is said to be a normie (Hunter Doohan). Throughout the season, the young pig-tailed goth has had visions showing her a person’s future and all their dark secrets. When she kissed Tyler in the last episode, she saw that he was a “Hyde,” a type of bad guy who seems to be based on the story of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, a scientist who was both human and a monster.

Wednesday finds out that the guy she likes is probably the local killer. She asks her friends to kidnap and torture him, but they don’t like the idea. After Wednesday’s plans fall through, and she is kicked out of Nevermore, Tyler gives her a speech about how he has been up to no good. But he’s not the person who planned the killings. The question still stands: Who is in charge of Tyler?

Wednesday goes to see her friend Eugene in the hospital. Eugene loves bugs and has been hurt. He says that during the attack, he saw someone wearing red boots, which ties everything together for Wednesday: Marylin Thornhill is to blame (Christina Ricci). Ms Thornhill has been trying to be friends with Wednesday all season, but it was all a trick. Her real name is Laurel Gates, and she has been plotting to get back at the Addams family for years.

When Wednesday confronts Thornhill, she finds out that the plant-lover has been using her herbal concoctions to show Tyler his Hyde side after telling him about what happened to his mother when she was a Hyde. Then Tyler comes back, and Thornhill says, “I’ll do anything for her.”

It’s not Tyler, though.

Throughout the series, Wednesday has had problems with Principal Weens (Gwendoline Christie), who cares a lot about Nevermore’s reputation and the safety of her outcast students. She can also change her appearance. The fake Tyler changes into Weems, but before the principal can do anything else, she is stabbed with poisoned nightshade and dies right before Wednesday’s eyes. Then, a shovel is used to hit the teen on the head.

Thornhill’s plan is about a lot more than just bothering Wednesday. She wants to bring Joseph Crackstone back to life, even though Wednesday’s magical ancestor Goody Addams put a spell on his coffin. Crackstone was a religious fanatic who hated and feared the outcasts and wanted to kill them all. Thornhill is all for this, so she uses Wednesday’s blood to open his tomb and let him back into the world.

As Wednesday dies, Thornhill makes her big plan happen, and a tired-looking Crackstone shows up and starts making trouble at Nevermore. Before it’s too late, the spirit of Goody Addams shows up and heals her descendant. She then sends her off to put Crackstone back in his grave.

Wednesday runs into Tyler’s Hyde side again in the woods, but her roommate Enid (Emma Myers) finally figures out how to “wolf out” and becomes a werewolf to protect her best friend. Wednesday gets away and uses a piece of a special sword to stab Crackstone’s resurrected body in the heart, killing him.

Thornhill also gets what’s coming to her when Eugene’s bees attack her. It’s unclear if she dies, but Wednesday gives her a big kick to the head that knocks her out and makes her leave the scene. Wednesday then sees her other friends, Bianca (Joy Sunday), Xavier (Percy Hynes White), and Enid, whom she finally hugs after refusing to all season.

The story ends when Wednesday types “THE END?” at the end of her book on her typewriter and gets a phone from Xavier, who competed with Tyler for her love. She could be more tech-savvy.

Wednesday gets several threatening text messages from a number she doesn’t know as she and Lurch and Thing drive away from Nevermore. Wednesday is thrilled to have her first stalker, and fans might be too because it means there’s another mystery for her to solve in a possible second season.
