Does Wednesday Addams Have Powers? Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega as Morticia Addams, is Netflix’s newest smash hit original series. It’s a modern take on the traditional gothic tale that first appeared in a comic strip in the 1930s and has since become a massively successful franchise. Wednesday attends Nevermore Academy, where many of her classmates also have extraordinary abilities in the new Netflix series.
Wednesday marked the return of everyone’s favorite gothic family, and the Netflix series has plenty of source material to draw. The American cartoonist Charles Addams initially published his fictitious creatures in The New Yorker in 1938. In the years after, we’ve seen each clan member in several guises.
The coming-of-age horror-comedy, co-created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, made its debut on the platform on November 23rd, 2022, and is guaranteed to please both longtime fans of the property and newcomers.
The first four episodes, directed by Tim Burton and starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, offer a unique perspective on the character.
We tag along as she is spirited away to Nevermore Academy, the same prestigious institution that both her parents graduated from. She is resolute in forging her own personality and legacy rather than following in their footsteps.
Does Wednesday Addams Have Powers?
Yes, Wednesday possesses intriguing psychic powers that, as the story develops, are useful in various contexts.
She can see into the past of whatever she touches, both people and things. She can see the bullies who abused her brother Pugsley, for instance, by touching him. She also can look into the future.
In the show, Wednesday discusses her capabilities and reveals in a voiceover that she has trouble mastering them. She turns to one of her ancestors, Goody Addams, for guidance, and their encounter occurs because of Wednesday’s usage of her abilities. That she can have meaningful conversations with historical individuals is made clear in this scene.
The concern that she would give in to the darker side of her inherited powers from Morticia motivates her to urge Wednesday to learn to control them.
Wednesday’s psychic powers develop throughout the novel and help her uncover the truth about the creature that terrorizes the students of Nevermore and beyond.
How Did Wednesday Get Her Powers?
Wednesday has inherited her ability to see into the future. Principal Weems reveals that Morticia, like him, had psychic visions; however, hers were “notoriously unreliable and hazardous.”
Morticia has become a Dove because of her newfound optimism. However, Wednesday’s darker, more macabre nature makes her a Raven. In the fifth episode, Morticia explains to Wednesday how her abilities are unique.
Morticia adds that they are helpless to develop or rein in their psychic powers. When the time is right, one of their forefathers or mothers will contact them to offer assistance and advice. And this is when Goody Addams comes in…
What Visions Does Wednesday See?
Morticia reveals that Wednesday’s superior visions are because she is a raven. Thus, Wednesday is afforded far bloodier glimpses, which ultimately aid her in determining the nature of the Hyde monster and unraveling the enigma of Never.
Wednesday can see visions of the Hyde attacking random students (Rowan, Eugene) and eventually learns the identity of the person who is the Hyde through the power of touch. Weems and Xavier’s warnings about her visions coming true came close to being realized.
Wednesday also has recurring dreams about her forebears, Goody Addams and Joseph Crackstone. Wednesday’s deceased relative, who has reached out to her through her visions, has been revealed to be Goody.
