Dressed in a sparkling black shorts-and-jacket combo adorned with pink hearts, Underwood commanded the stage. Her energetic set featured flashing lights, and a fireworks display erupted above the stage as she concluded the song.

The outdoor nighttime performance took place in downtown Austin, Texas, just steps from the awards show venue. The dome of the Texas Capitol building provided a stunning backdrop for Underwood’s set.

Video of the Year Contender

“Hate My Heart” was among the finalists for the CMT Music Awards’ prestigious Video of the Year award. Initially featuring 16 nominees, fan votes narrowed the contenders down to the top three, with Underwood competing against the eventual winners, Kane Brown and Katelyn Brown’s “Thank God,” and Hardy and Lainey Wilson’s “Wait in the Truck.”

A History of Success

In addition to her Video of the Year nomination, Underwood was also a contender in the Female Video of the Year category for “Ghost Story,” the leading single from Denim & Rhinestones. As the holder of 25 CMT Music Awards trophies, Underwood is the most successful artist in the awards show’s history.
