Who Is On The January 6th Committee? The House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol held its final hearing on Monday. In it, its members decided in a 9-0 vote to recommend to the Department of Justice the criminal prosecution of former President Donald Trump.

The House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, storming of the Capitol unanimously agreed to recommend to the Department of Justice the criminal prosecution of former President Donald Trump on charges of obstruction of official congressional process and conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to make a false statement, and incite and assist members of an insurrection.

By accepting the recommendation, the Department would set a historical precedent: never in the 250-year history of the United States has a former president been prosecuted for criminal misconduct.

The committee held its final hearing Monday in the newly christened Nancy Pelosi Meeting Room. In it, they showed a video with “key evidence” obtained during the investigation before its members voted to refer to the Department of Justice the criminal prosecution of Trump and some members of his circle for charges related to violence in Congress and his plan to “spread the false idea of electoral fraud.”

Bennie Thompson is the committee’s chair, and Liz Cheney is the vice chair. The committee is made up of seven Democrats and two Republicans.
