Written by Tony Kushner and based on the book by Arthur Laurents, the film is directed by Steven Spielberg, a filmmaker more than well known for titles like Ready Player One, The Pentagon Files, or Bridge of Spies, among many others.

This musical romantic drama puts a new twist on the story of Romeo and Juliet by setting their story in 1950s New York and focusing on the rivalry of two gangs and the love of Tony and Maria, who have affiliations with the rivals gangs.
