Kimberly Harrison Will Be The Showrunner for Hulu’s Sammy Davis Jr. Limited Series: Lee Daniels and 20th Television’s Sammy Davis, Jr. limited series on Hulu will be run by Kimberly Harrison. Elijah Kelley will play the Candy Man in the series.
Based on Will Haygood’s biography In Black and White: The Life of Sammy Davis Jr. and Alex Haley’s interview with Davis, the eight-episode series, which doesn’t have a name yet, was written by Daniels and Thomas Westfall. It looks at the entertainer’s life through the lens of his racial identity and his complicated relationship with the Black community.
It’s about Davis, who started out as a child star in vaudeville and went on to become one of the most famous African-American entertainers of the 1950s and 1960s. At the same time, he was surrounded by controversy and ridicule for most of his career. This was because of his affairs with white movie stars, his marriage to Swedish actress May Britt in 1960, his conversion to Judaism, his friendship with the Kennedys, and his problems with alcohol and drugs.
Harrison is in charge of the show. She is an executive producer along with Daniels and Westfall. Daniels will be in charge of the first two episodes. Marc Toberoff and Pam Williams are also in charge of making the show. Haygood and Kelley both make things. It is run by 20th Television.
This means that Harrison will get to see Lee and Kelley again. She was a co-executive producer on the Fox show Star, which was co-created and co-produced by Daniels. In Seasons 2 and 3, Kelley was a regular cast member on the show.
Harrison is currently a co-showrunner on The Crossover, an upcoming drama series on Disney+ about basketball. She was a co-executive producer on the NBC show Law & Order: Organized Crime in the past. Before this, she was a co-executive producer on the CBS show All Rise and an executive producer and showrunner on the Fox show Deputy. Harrison started her career on the show Criminal Minds. In 7 seasons, she went from being a staff writer to being a co-executive producer. After that, she left to join Star. She is represented by Verve, Nacelle, and Yorn Levine Barnes lawyer Jared Levine.
