How The Last of Us Season 2 Could Bring Back Original Joel Actor? Troy Baker suggests a way for him to come back in the second season of The Last of Us. Baker originally did Joel Miller’s voice and motion capture for the video games The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II. Pedro Pascal plays Joel in HBO’s version of the Naughty Dog video game series. However, Baker still got to play James, David’s right-hand man, in The Last of Us episode 8, even though Ellie killed the character before the end of the episode.

Shortly after The Last of Us episode 8 came out, Baker talked to Inverse and came up with a creative way for him to come back even though James died. The actor who played Joel before says that, like Garret Dillahunt in Deadwood, he could come back in The Last of Us season 2 as a different character. Taking a page from Gary Oldman’s book, he is willing to go through a major physical change to do this.

HBO renewed The Last of Us for a second season soon after its record-breaking premiere. The second season will mostly follow the events of the second game. Many of the new characters introduced in The Last of Us Part II are likely to show up in the HBO show. This includes Abby and Dina, who were both hinted at in an Easter egg in The Last of Us episode 6. Most likely, The Last of Us season 2 will also introduce Dina’s ex-boyfriend Jesse and Abby’s fellow Firefly Manny, but Baker won’t be able to play either of these characters.

Several voice actors from the games have been in the HBO show The Last of Us. Merle Dandridge is playing Marlene, the leader of the resistance, again, and Jeffrey Pierce is playing the revolutionary rebel Perry. Now, Baker is playing James. Even though there aren’t any major characters in The Last of Us Part II that he could play, there’s no reason why Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who thought Baker’s presence in the series was important, wouldn’t be willing to create a new minor character for him to play in The Last of Us season 2.
