House of the Dragon Episode 5 Recap And Cast (We Light the Way): A horrific scene opens the House of the Dragon episode “We Light the Way” when a cloaked Daemon returns to the Vale after being asked to do so by King Viserys I. The Daemon had previously paralyzed and murdered Viserys I’s wife, Lady Rhea Royce, while she was out on a ride on her horse.

Although Viserys’ health was rapidly worsening due to a spreading hand infection, he nevertheless led a fleet to Castle Driftmark and proposed to Princess Rhaenyra and Lord Corlys Velaryon’s son, Laenor.

Rhaenyra and Laenor walked the beach and agreed to have a covert open marriage so that they could each pursue who they were genuinely drawn to while their parents made plans for their lives and futures inside the castle.

Alicent’s distrust of Rhaenyra was already well established by the time Criston revealed to the queen that he and Rhaenyra had been intimate when Alicent was only seeking to confirm the Daemon rumor, thanks to the “Tea” information and Otto’s insight.

The wedding of Rhaenyra and Laenor was preceded by a week of games, and the week was capped off with a massive feast in King’s Landing.

Joffrey, Laenor’s lover, told Criston that he and Laenor had discovered his affair with Rhaenyra.

After everyone had left, Rhaenyra and Laenor tied the knot before Viserys passed off.
