Buddy Daddies Season 1 Episode 8 Recap

Buddy Daddies Season 1 Episode 8 Recap: Rei gets dressed early one morning and tells Miri he is going to his home. Kazuki is surprised to hear that Rei’s father called him home, but he is glad to have him leave because he and Miri are planning a party for him.

Kazuki tells Miri that Rei’s father is “evil” or scary while they are out getting food. When Rei goes to see him, he is a cold old man whom his son calls “boss.” After scolding Rei for how he’s been living for the past three years, he tells him that he thinks it’s time for him to come home. Kazuki tells Miri that Rei’s father had a lot of hopes for his son.

After telling Rei that being an assassin is in his blood, his father says it’s time for him to run the family business and become the head of the organisation. He tells Rei he will give him time to finish up his business, but he still gives him a job to do before the end of the day.

Buddy Daddies Season 1 Episode 8 Recap

What is Ogino doing on Rei’s family estate?

Ogino is supposed to drive Rei to work and tell him about the target on the way. Rei seems to know the target because he learned a few skills from him, but now he has to kill him because he betrayed the family. He tries to talk to Rei about the philosophy of killing while they are driving, but she doesn’t seem interested.

As Rei gets out of the car, Ogino asks him what the target said right before he died, because he likes to write them down in his notebook.

A full-on gun battle

Rei walks up to the target on a pier. When the target finds out why Rei is there, he and Rei start shooting at each other. Since the target has known Rei since he was young, he tells him that he was surprised when Rei decided to leave his family, but now that his father has asked him to come back, he can see that Rei is a “Suwa through and through.” Even though no one is allowed to leave the organisation, the target found something else worth protecting, but says Rei would never understand that.

Still, Rei beats him in the end by shooting him in the leg. He says that he does have something worth protecting before the target stumbles back, breaks through a rusted railing, and falls to his death. As he falls, his last words are “I’m on my way,” which Rei doesn’t tell Ogino.

Who comes to pick Rei up?

Rei decides not to go back with Ogino, so he stays at the pier and thinks about what the target told him while they were fighting. Kazuki calls to find out where he is, but Rei tells him he needs some time to calm down. Kazuki comes with the car to pick him up while he is thinking. On the way home, they talk about how things were when they met for the first time.

How Does the Eighth Episode of Season 1 of Buddy Daddies End?

When Rei gets home, Kazuki and Miri’s plans for a surprise birthday party for him are still there. As Kazuki blows out the candles on a cake, Miri wakes up just long enough to wish Rei a happy birthday.

At the end of the episode, Ogino brings Kyutaro a new target from the Boss, who is also Rei’s father. When Kyutaro opens the envelope, he sees that Kazuki and Miri are the latest marks.

I’ve been wondering where this story is going for weeks, and I finally know. I have to say, it was much better than I thought it would be. Even though this is a show about assassins, it didn’t feel like they had done much lately that had to do with them. Rei’s family and Ogino came at the right time, and it was well worth it to know that all the buildup was leading to something interesting with Rei’s father.

Kazuki’s backstory and Rei’s were quite different, with it constantly feeling like Kazuki was the real main character here. I didn’t expect the show to make Rei the one who fights to protect his family, but I think it works better for the show as a whole. When I watch from Rei’s point of view, I care more because it seems like he has more to lose. I think the series increased the story and made it more interesting by raising the stakes. I’m excited to see where things go.
