Young and eager River Cartwright (Jack Lowden), seasoned office manager Catherine Standish (Saskia Reeves), obnoxious computer geek Roddy (Christopher Chung), inept agent Min Harper (Dustin Demri-Burns), competent Louisa (Rosalind Eleazar), and newcomers Marcus and Shirley round out the Slough House crew.
Lamb gives these agents aggressive orders peppered with snarky humour and cursing.
Critics adored Slow Horses upon its release, praising the performances, the action, and the snappy, hilarious narrative. Although the overall quality looked to decrease from the first to the second season due to the show’s increased reliance on tropes.
I agree with the general consensus that the second season was not as good as the first, but it was still an espionage genre masterpiece. Gary Oldman is fantastic in his role as the obnoxious Jackson Lamb, and he clearly enjoys himself while performing.
While the series’s early excitement may fade, it is still quite powerful. In the last moments of Season 2, fans will wonder if Season 3 is in the works.
