What Is The Sokol Project In Jack Ryan Season 3?

Several hard-line Soviets came up with the Sokol Project, which, if it worked, would bring Russia back to its glory days as the USSR during the Cold War.

Jack Ryan says that “Sokol” is the Russian word for “falcon,” which is why the first episode is called “Falcon,” and that it is also the name of both the project and a weapon that will be used in the plan.

As the episodes continue, Jack learns that the Sokol Project is based on the Soviet military exercise called “Seven Days to the River Rhine.” This real-life plan made during the Cold War showed how the USSR and its allies would attack NATO if a war broke out.

The main idea behind the Sokol Project was that people would use a small, untraceable nuclear weapon to cause chaos in the Eastern Bloc countries so that Russia could take back land that used to be part of the Soviet Union.
