The Black Phone by Scott Derrickson | Derrickson Has Provided The First Look At Hawke's Masked Killer In The Black Phone

After Sinister, Ethan Hawke and director Scott Derrickson will return to collaborate together for The Black Phone, a Blumhouse film based on a Joe Hill short story. Hawke will star alongside Jeremy Davies, Mason Thames, and Madeleine McGraw. The shooting will start next month in North Carolina. Derrickson adapted the work of Hill, son of Stephen King, along with C. Robert Cargill. Joe Hill will executive produce while Universal will distribute the film.

The Black Phone Release Date 2022

Universal Pictures has announced the release date of The Black Phone, a horror film directed by Scott Derrickson. The film will hit US theaters on January 28, 2022.

The Black Phone Is Based On

The project in question is based on the short story by Joe Hill titled The Phone Black (The Black Phone) in the collection of stories Ghosts ( 20th Century Ghosts ).

Derrickson has provided the first look at Hawke’s masked killer in The Black Phone, a mysterious serial killer with no name. The image shows Hawke in a horned mask, dressed all in black and with his left arm apparently bandaged. In addition to the image, Derrickson also announced that the film will premiere on September 25 at this year’s Fantastic Fest film festival. The director also revealed that a “quarantine short” titled Shadowprowler will also debut at the Festival. Take a look at the picture and details below:

Derrickson got his start in the horror genre with The Exorcism of Emily Rose and then moved on to science fiction with the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still with Keanu Reeves. In 2012, the director directed Sinister (his first film with Hawke) and then in 2014 he directed another exorcism-themed film, Deliver Us From Evil. He then made the leap to the big leagues for Marvel in 2016 with Doctor Strange. After a five-year hiatus, Derrickson now re-enters the horror genre with The Black Telephone and will later switch it up again with the sci-fi thriller Bermuda.
