The Clark County coroner said the girl’s name was Ashari Hughes and that a decision on how and why she died wasa still being made.
Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Desert Oasis High School Principal Ian Salzman said in an email that campus staff helped Hughes right away after he fell until paramedics arrived during the school’s home game against Valley High School.
In a statement, Jesus Jara, who is in charge of the schools in Las Vegas, said that the district shared Hughes’ family, friends, and loved ones’ grief.
The death in Las Vegas happened after a professional football player, Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills, went into cardiac arrest and had to be revived on the field during an NFL game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday.
Hamlin was getting better in a hospital in Cincinnati. On Friday, Hamlin’s agent said that Hamlin was breathing alone and could talk after a breathing tube was taken out. Saturday, he thanked people for their help on social media.
