On December 20, 2009, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded at 8 a.m. to a call from the home that actress Brittany Murphy shared at the time with her mother, Sharon Murphy, and her husband, the writer British Simon Monjack, in West Hollywood. Sharon had just found her daughter passed out on the bathroom floor and she urgently needed an ambulance.

The health services quickly moved to her home and found the girl in cardiac arrest, so they proceeded to start resuscitation maneuvers. Immediately after, she moved her body to the exclusive Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 10:04 am due to cardiac arrest. The 32-year-old actress was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, but she did not rest in peace like the common dead.

The Los Angeles police immediately launched an investigation to determine the true cause of death, and an autopsy was performed to find out what could have caused this heart attack in such a young and apparently healthy person.

What Happened, Brittany Murphy

Murphy, whose life and sudden death will be explored in the new documentary, “What Happened, Brittany Murphy,” which premieres on HBO Max on October 14, moved into the house in 2003, after buying it fully furnished from Britney Spears for $3.85 million.

She lived in the house for just under six years with Monjack, whom she married in 2007 before she died in the master bathroom on the morning of December 20, 2009. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a 911 call from the actress’s mother, Sharon, who lived with the couple, at 8 a.m. when the “Clueless” star collapsed. Murphy was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Brittany Murphy Cause Of Death

In February, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office concluded that Murphy’s death was the result of untreated pneumonia, combined with anemia and poisoning from prescription and over-the-counter drugs, including pain relievers and cold medications. No illegal drugs were found in her system.

On May 23, 2010, five months after the actress’s death, Sharon found her son-in-law unconscious in the house. Monjack, then 40 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene. Like Murphy, a medical examiner determined that acute pneumonia and severe anemia were the causes of his death.

Both Spears and Murphy reported that they thought there was something strange about the house, which is located on Rising Glen Road at the top of the Sunset Strip when they both lived there. Spears, who was dating Justin Timberlake when she lived in the house, apparently claimed to have had strange experiences that led her to leave the property and never return.
