How Many Rings Were There In Lord of the Rings? The new The Lord of the Rings TV series is available on Amazon Prime, but how many Rings of Power are there, and who got them?
Two episodes of the Amazon Prime Video series The Rings of Power, a forerunner to The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, aired on September 2.
The first two episodes of the series, called the most costly TV show ever made did not disappoint in terms of visuals or plot.
Some viewers may wonder why the new series has been titled The Rings of Power and, more particularly, how many powerful rings exist in Middle-earth.
J. R. R. Tolkien’s works, most notably his high fantasy novel The Lord of the Rings, feature imaginary magical artefacts known as the Rings of Power.
Tolkien introduced the Ruling Ring in The Hobbit as a plot device, a magic ring; he later gave it a history and considerably more influence.
In addition to the Three Rings of the Elves, Seven Rings of the Dwarves, and Nine Rings of Men, he listed nineteen other Great Rings that it could control, all of which granted invisibility.
He also mentioned that numerous smaller rings possessed comparatively weak abilities.
The addictive power of the One Ring, crafted in secret by the Dark Lord Sauron, is central to the plot, while the Nine Rings transform their wearers into Ringwraiths, the deadliest of Sauron’s servants.
How Many Rings Were There In Lord of the Rings?
The 20 Rings of Power in The Lord of the Rings canon were forged in the Second Age of Middle-earth, the period covered by The Rings of Power TV series.
During this period, under the direction of Celebrimbor (played by Charles Edwards) and Elrond, the Elf-smiths of Eregion, located near the West-gate of Moria, forged 19 magical rings that are likely to play a role in future episodes (Robert Aramayo).
According to The Lord of the Rings, the Elven species preserved three of the 19 magical rings, while the Man race received nine and the Dwarves seven.
Before Sauron constructed the one additional ring that was more powerful than the other 19 rings, sometimes known as “the one ring to rule them all,” these three rings that the Elves owned were indeed the three most potent rings that existed before Sauron created the other ring.
To add intrigue, the official Fandom page claims that Sauron has been involved in creating all sixteen of the previous rings thanks to his ability to fool the Elves in charge of their fabrication. This is something we may witness in future TV series.
The Great Rings and the history of their possession are summarised in a single stanza fundamental to Middle-earth lore. Here’s what it says in English:
“Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.”
