Endless Summer Vacation Reviews (Miley Cyrus)

Endless Summer Vacation Reviews (Miley Cyrus): From the sound of the introduction, Miley Cyrus’s eighth album is sure to be a huge hit. Its first single, “Flowers,” has been a huge hit. It broke the record for the most Spotify streams in its first week, stayed at number one in the US for six weeks, and is about to stay there for an eighth week in the UK.

People who don’t use TikTok or came to the party late might not understand why the song caused so much fuss. It has a simple, old-fashioned beat that moves along without any moments that stand out. When the strings come in, it’s easy to hear how similar it is to I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor. But its message of strength is very appealing to people who talk a lot about self-care, and the fact that it came out on her ex-husband’s birthday makes it feel like you know all the juicy details of the breakup.

In any case, no one can guess what the social media platform will be interested in next. Because of TikTok users, a song by The Weeknd that came out almost seven years ago has replaced Miley Cyrus at number one in America. The rest of Endless Summer Vacation should still be interesting, though, because it jumps around between different kinds of music so quickly that it’s impossible to get bored.

Cyrus has tried to make the album make sense by dividing it into “AM” and “PM” sections. Unusually, this means that the slower songs come first, like Jaded, a breakup song with a twinkling melody and a grandiose chorus where her raspy voice lets loose. The daughter of Billy Ray and goddaughter of Dolly Parton stays true to her country roots on the song Thousand Miles, a classy duet with Brandi Carlile. On the piano-led torch song You, she lets her voice do more of the heavy lifting.

After that, there’s a hazy wash of synths and some spoken words: “We met on the neon dinghy,” Cyrus says in a gnomic way as the electronics get faster and faster. It’s a strange one, and then River comes in with its loud acid pop. On Violet Chemistry, she’s the last person in the club, has lost her phone, and is out of cigarettes: “When the floor is wet and the lights come on but you don’t want to leave.”

At the end, Wonder Woman, another movie about a strong woman, brings things full circle. Cyrus’s strength is that she can fit her powerful voice to so many different styles. Even people with short attention spans should be able to find a new favourite song on her new album.
