In the previous episode, titled “Fractured,” the CSI team investigates a bomb that detonated during a masquerade party for wealthy investors at a new casino site. While initially suspected to be the work of environmentalists protesting the casino’s construction, the evidence begins pointing towards a different motive and culprit. The casino owner operating next to the new site is eventually revealed as the mastermind behind the bombing.

Josh, one of the CSI team members, forgoes medical treatment to help his friend Trey, who has landed in trouble. However, he ultimately has to get Trey arrested as he turns out to be a drug dealer responsible for a client’s accidental death.
