The legendary singer and songwriter Bob Dylan is immersed in a great controversy because last Friday he was sued in a court in New York by a woman who accuses him of having sexually abused her almost 60 years ago when she was 12.
A woman who declined to be named has sued the folk singer-songwriter, Bob Dylan, alleging he sexually abused her after giving her drugs and alcohol in 1965, when she was 12 years old.
A spokesman for Dylan – who is now 80 years old – said the allegations were false. “The 56-year-old claim is false and will be vigorously defended,” the spokesman said.
According to the woman’s testimony, the events occurred in the musician’s New York apartment over a period of six weeks “leaving her with emotional scars and psychological damage to this day.”
Bob Dylan, who was 24 at the time, “took advantage of his status as a musician to provide JC with alcohol and drugs and sexually abuse her multiple times,” the lawsuit says.
The woman filed the lawsuit just one day before the deadline established by the state of New York to file complaints of sexual abuse of children who in the past did not make the corresponding complaint.
Last week, a plaintiff in the case involving the late financier Jeffrey Epstein used that law to sue Prince Andrew, the son of Queen Elizabeth, for alleged sexual abuse.
Winner of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature for “creating new poetic expressions in the great tradition of American song,” Bob Dylan is widely considered the greatest composer of all time. Among his most famous songs are “Blowin in the Wind”, “The Times They Are a-Changin” or even “Like a Rolling Stone”.
Dylan stormed New York in the early 1960s and revolutionized folk music. Since then he has sold more than 125 million records worldwide.
