In this sneak peek, we are introduced to the new governor, John Dutton, who, as per usual, has some words of wisdom to impart, Beth, who, per usual, has declared war, and Jamie, who, per usual, is a bit of a worm.
However, the stakes have never been higher than they are right now. Since the Duttons now wield more significant influence than in the past, they will lose considerably more if things go south.
Preparations for a fight have begun by all, including everyone from John, Beth, and Jamie to Kayce, Rainwater, and Mo. Market Equities will be eliminated, clearing the way for John to take on Rainwater, as predicted by yours. They’ll turn on each other once more if they don’t have an opponent they can unite against.
John remarks in the preview, “Nobody knows what the hell we do anymore.” “I think it’s time we remind them.”
In this season of “Yellowstone,” this plot point has the potential to return. There’s a chance that, as Governor, John will face accusations of being too lenient. They will treat him like a pushover and try to play him for a fool, even though he is more powerful than ever.
John says, “The first Duttons to settle this valley, fighting was all they knew.” “What it must feel like to be that free. Cowards rule the world these days.”
Another memorable line from the timeless classic, “1883.” However, John Dutton is aware that the year is no longer 1883.
Today’s issues are more complex, and today’s people are more sneaky and covert. As Governor, he must navigate the complex political system. Unlike his forebears, he is not free to do as he pleases. He is displeased by this development.
We learn that Monica and Kayce’s baby, John Dutton, was born prematurely and died when Monica and Tate were involved in a vehicle accident on the way to the hospital at the end of the pilot episode.
All of this is significant for John since they ultimately decided to name him; John Dutton IV.
At first, glance, what seems like a personal tragedy may actually be symbolic significance. As the fourth John Dutton, John IV carried on his father’s name and heritage. Unfortunately, the newborn passed away. Since Beth cannot produce children and Jamie is not a blood relative, Tate is the only legitimate heir to the Dutton name.
This child, bearing John’s name, would ensure his legacy would live on. John Dutton may have to face more than the loss of a grandson due to this man’s passing. It may also portend his demise.
