The teaser opens with Jenni Rivera being introduced at a live performance and then cuts to news coverage of the plane disaster that took her life at 43. Some unanswered questions about the crash are raised, such as why Rivera’s identification was located, but the plane’s black box was not. This has fueled speculation about a possible cover-up.

Even the cartel has been implicated by those who question whether or not the disaster was accidental. Along with the singer, the trailer also has audio recordings by Rivera, which may shed light on the mysterious case.

By focusing on the Regional Mexican subgenre, Jenni Rivera became one of the most successful performers, selling over 20 million records worldwide. In addition to her music, Rivera was also an activist and served as the spokeswoman in the U.S. for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Posthumously, Rivera appeared in the 2013 film Filly Brown, where she had previously appeared on reality television and was just starting out as an actress.

After performing in Monterrey, Mexico, on December 9, 2012, Rivera boarded a plane. All five passengers and crew members were killed when contact was lost, and the wreckage was discovered. As the plane apparently disintegrated on contact due to the high rate of speed with which it hit the ground, the official inquiry into the incident could not pinpoint a precise cause. The flight recorders also went missing, making it even more difficult for investigators to get to the bottom of things. An apparent “loss of control” is blamed for the disaster.
