The Rig Episode 5 Recap And Ending Explained 2022 Amazon Series

The Rig Episode 5: When new people arrive on the Kinloch Bravo oil rig, things get worse and more people to die. In the fifth episode of “The Rig” on Amazon Prime, we finally find out what Pictor Energy is doing in the North Sea. This episode also answers some questions that have been bothering viewers for the past four episodes. The episode is also a clear example of what happens when people stop following a leader they know and trust and start following someone they’ve only known for a few hours.

The Rig Episode 5 Recap

Even though the crew’s actions killed more people, one good thing came out of these bad times: the team finally stood together against the evils of the corporation, which had already killed many people. Find out what happens on the Kinloch Bravo and what we learn about in the fifth episode of “The Rig” by reading on.

When “The Rig” Episode 5 starts, the ship’s lights seen at the end of Episode 4 are much clearer. However, the boat doesn’t look big enough to carry back the whole crew of Kinloch Bravo. Instead, it turns out to be a lifeboat from Charlie. This is likely because Charlie’s ship caught fire and is now out of service. Heather, Cat, and others go with blankets and towels to greet the newcomers, but the guests are not happy. Especially the man who looks like he works for the government (Mark Addy) and says he is David Coake from Pictor’s Research and Expansion team. Coake takes over the control room and starts giving orders while Magnus is sick in his cabin, where he finally breaks down and starts crying over the loss of his child. He also tells them a secret about Rose: she was supposed to be in charge of shutting down the Kinloch, but she kept quiet even though she was on their side. Harish, a worker on the Charlie rig, tells Cat and Heather in the med bay that Coake has arrived and sent their OIM and a few crewmates back to the shore. He was in charge of getting rid of carbon by sending something to the bottom of the ocean. There’s a good chance that these horrible experiments were what woke up the ancestor, who is now on a mission to take over the world. Harish says that Coake’s experiments worsened, the pressure went up, and the rig started to shake. A lot of people on Charlie died because of what this strict man did. It’s also revealed that Harish and Easter dated in the past, which makes for a brief, funny moment in the middle of a lot of trouble.

After giving it some thought, Fulmer goes to the Production Module to meet up with Baz and Garrow. Meanwhile, Heather compares the Charlie crew that came to Bravo with the Charlie roster to find out which crewmates died because Magnus told them to. Heather looks up at David Coake when she has a sudden idea, but no one by that name shows up. What is he trying to hide? At the cafeteria, Murchison, Dunlin, and Hutton (Owen Teale), who are all upset with the way management works and want to hear what Coake has to say, form an unlikely team. While working on the circles found at the bottom of the sea in Rose’s lab, she suddenly realises that the rings might be how the ancient lifeform keeps track of time. Only it’s not through years or decades, but through epochs in the history of the earth or every major extinction period that has happened on earth, with the current one being the Holocene Period. Coake asks for a team to clean the module, but Magnus says no. Fulmer tells Baz and Garrow that he doesn’t feel as loyal to the cause now that he’s on the side of the old organism. In response, Baz and Garrow ask Fulmer to turn off the Well Injection monitor. Dunlin, Hutton, and Murchison meet up with Coake somewhere else. He gives the men the job of pumping compressed carbon dioxide into the module, which is supposed to knock out Baz, Garrow, and Fulmer so they can safely take out of the area. This will let Coake keep doing CCS or capture and store carbon like he did on Charlie. It also says what was inside the locked containers: compressed CO2, even though the cylinders say they contain dangerous chemicals. Coake tells them he’ll watch the doors and make sure they don’t close on the team so they can get the three men inside. Hutton, Dunlin, and Murchison put on protective suits, oxygen tanks, and gas masks and go inside to fill the CO2 tanks. But it has a bad side effect: the lush plants inside the module start to die, and people who aren’t wearing masks start coughing and choking. Garrow spits blood on Hutton’s mask, and they quickly realise it’s more than just a knockout gas as Garrow dies from the poison. As they were leaving, Dunlin fell behind, so Coake shut the doors behind him. His oxygen runs out, and he gasps and chokes to death while Hutton screams and cries outside. Hutton feels terrible about Dunlin’s loss because he was the one who made Dunlin go through with the terrible plan.

Kinloch Bravo Crew Gets Together

Magnus talks to Coake in the control room about how Pictor knew long ago that the organism had been found in the area but still let the crew go out there. He seems to be the connection between people and the ancient life form because he can talk to it through the spores. Rose finds out that Coake has turned on the fire suppression system, so she rushes in with Hutton’s oxygen tank and suit to save Fulmer. She stops the poisonous gas from coming out by pulling the lever and finds Fulmer lying on the floor. She tries to pull him out the door, but she trips and falls. When her hand touches the dead grass, all the plants inside the module come back to life, and the spores start moving again. Fulmer wakes up, and Rose and Baz take him outside while Baz also wakes up. Magnus finds Hutton having a nervous breakdown because he thinks he killed his coworker of twenty years. But Magnus can calm him down and get him to see sense. He says that neither Magnus nor Hutton was directly to blame for the death of his son Thomas or the death of Dunlin. Hutton and Magnus finally agree on something, and they decide that Coake can’t just get away with what he did and needs to be held accountable. The last ring closes at the bottom of the sea, and it looks like the end of people has finally come.

The Time Of Doom Has Come

In the fifth episode of “The Rig,” we meet new characters, and the tension on the Kinloch Bravo rig gets even worse. Jorah Mormont (Glen), Alliser Thorne (Teale), and Robert Baratheon (Addy) are all in a different show together, so it’s like a “Game of Thrones” reunion. For GOT fans, this could be an exciting moment. On less exciting grounds, Coake shows himself as a ruthless corporate tyrant who doesn’t care if two or twenty people die as long as the mission is successful. He takes over Rose’s job as the company’s representative from Episode 1, even though he is much more ruthless than Rose ever was. Garrow and Dunlin’s deaths bring the total number of deaths to four, and it is Dunlin’s death that changes Hutton. He stops being selfish and finally accepts Magnus as the leader, which he hadn’t done before. The rest of the crew of Kinloch Bravo stands together against the tyrant from Pictor. It’s possible that this oil-drilling giant’s actions led to the rise of this ancestor and signalled the end of the human race.

The Rig Episode 5 Ending Explain

This finally explains how Baz discovered that the Well Injector is the device used to hurt the ancestor. Pictor was sending carbon back into the seafloor through this injector. The intelligent lifeform found the thing that was hurting it and asked Baz, the worker it trusted the most, to destroy the weapon. The final ring closing means that the Holocene period is coming to an end, and the rig will be the first man-made structure that nature destroys on her way to taking back her land. With only one episode left in the first season, the sixth and final episode is meant to be the climax that shows what happens to the Kinloch Bravo crew and all of humanity when the ancestor finally strikes. We can only hope that it doesn’t end in a way that makes us have to wait months to find out what happens next.
