Megan Rapinoe Medal Of Freedom: Two of the brightest careers in American sports in recent years, Simone Biles and Megan Rapinoe, were awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Thursday.

US President Joe Biden personally delivered the awards, and it is the highest civil recognition within that country, which is given to those who contributed to prosperity, values , or security.
During the ceremony, the OL Reign player became the first female footballer to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Biden.
After being recognized, Rapinoe is expected to return to Monterrey to rejoin the Stars and Stripes women’s team to close Groups of the Concacaf W tournament, in which they will face Jamaica and Mexico.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is considered the nation’s highest civilian distinction in the United States. It is the military’s counterpart of the nation’s highest civilian distinction, the Medal of Honor, which is awarded by the president of the United States of America.
Why Did Megan Rapinoe Receive The Presidential Medal of Freedom?
While Megan Rapinoe has won numerous accolades for her soccer skills throughout her 16-year international career, she will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her contributions away from the field of play.
Rapinoe spearheaded the most advanced equal pay measures in women’s soccer when she signed a new collective bargaining agreement with U.S. Soccer.
As an advocate for global gay and transgender rights, the 37-year-old was one of the first women to join the “Common Goal” campaign started by former Manchester United player Juan Mata, which saw athletes donate one percent of their salaries to soccer-related charities. She was also one of the first women to join the United States Olympic team.
