In Toy Story there seemed to be this incredible backstory to him being a Space Ranger that’s only touched upon, and I always wanted to explore that world further.
So my Lighytear pitch was, ‘What was the movie that Andy saw that made him want a Buzz Lightyear toy?’ I wanted to see that movie. And now I’m lucky enough to get to make it.

In 2021, Pixar produced a teaser video for Lightyear, showcasing the smooth animation and offering fans a first glimpse at the original Buzz Lightyear, released on October 27, 2021.
The most recent clip, released in April of 2022, shows Chris Evans as Buzz Aldrin, stuck on an unknown planet and recording an audio mission log.

The project’s introduction in December 2020 included the announcement of Chris Evans as the voice of human Buzz Lightyear.
MacLane has just one option for Buzz: Evans. On one of his visits, he met with representatives from Pixar, who pitched him the idea.
Given his passion for animation, Evans jumped at the opportunity right away. In November 2021, it was revealed that Taika Waititi had been cast in an unspecified role.
In February 2022, following the publication of the official trailer, it was revealed that supporting actors Keke Palmer, Dale Soules, Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez, and Isiah Whitlock Jr. had been cast.
The role of “Tim from Mission Control” will be played by European Space Agency astronaut Tim Peake in a film to be released in 2022.
On May 25, Carlos Sainz Jr. and Charles Leclerc were announced to be making cameo appearances in the film, both portraying the same unnamed character for the Spanish and Italian dubs of the film.

Pixar hasn’t confirmed “Toy Story 5” as of this writing. As a result, there is no official release date to go by at this moment.
