Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed Release Date: After a decent return to the cinema crowned with a box office of 200 million dollars, the Ghostbusters license will also be back in video games this year. Sony and Columbia Pictures have commissioned the IllFonic studio to produce Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, a game that is part of the great tradition of the studio already known for Friday the 13th, Predator Hunting Grounds, and Arcadegeddon.

It is therefore called Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed and is expected for the fourth quarter of 2022 on PC via the Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. It will once again take the form of an asymmetric 4v1 multiplayer game . 4 Ghost Hunters will don all traditional gear in first-person view to find an opponent-controlled Ghost. The latter can cross walls, possess objects, summon minions and use special abilities.

First, the game’s story is canonical and takes place after the events of Afterlife, the last released film. A rather strange announcement for a competitive multiplayer game, but the developers have insisted a lot on this aspect: the game will not be limited to offering missions to be chained ad nauseam but will give an important place to the narration.

Secondly, they insisted at length on accessibility, the keystone of the project. Thus, the game integrates cross-play between all platforms and has a design designed to appeal to a varied audience. Additionally, the gameplay is also very accessible: the game relies much more on collaboration between hunters than on FPS skills. So even an inexperienced player can feel useful. The same is true for ghosts: the integration of a reappearance mechanism prevents a single error from being fatal. Finally, the most attractive aspect is that all participants in the game, ghosts as well as hunters, can be replaced by artificial intelligence.
