When he played a tough man, Ward brought plenty of heart and street cred to the character.
Before moving to Rome as a young man and working as a mime and voice-over actor in the city’s nightclubs as a young man, Ward worked as a boxer in the U.S. Air Force and as a short-order chef. He subsequently attended acting school.
Roberto Rossellini appeared in a few television projects, and then in Hollywood, as a neorealist pioneer.
In 1979, Ward appeared in Clint Eastwood’s Escape from Alcatraz as a convicted felon.
Two of the actor’s most notable roles were in the 2009 thriller “Farewell” and the 2013 action film “2 Guns,” both of which were directed by Christian Carion.
