what is the difference between a Palace and a Castle when I looked into it I found out that it wasn’t as simple a question as I thought?

Castles first became a thing in the 9th and 10th century found in Europe and the Middle East they were made as a Place where powerful people could go and be safe from attacks a Castle is one or more buildings that have defensive walls towers and sometimes even a moat in the walls they have slits where arrows can be shot palaces have been around longer back to the ancient Greek and Roman times a palace is made for royalty and it is designed to look beautiful and elegant and it shows off the wealth that the royalty has it is not a safe place to hide from attacks.

If you can guess whether they are a palace or a castle this is Buckingham Palace the home of the Queen of England you can tell it’s a palace by the grand structure, and how the architecture is made to look nice there aren’t any high walls or any other defense this is once a castle another home of the Queen of England.

Here you can see the defensive walls it looks like a structure that you could never break into. The Winter Palace an absolutely stunning building this palace can be found in ST. Petersburg and Russia it was the home of the royal family of the Romanovs there are so much gold and marble that it is quite obvious that this is a palace this is Cardiff Castle found in Wales there are no extravagant detailing or gold plastered around these high walls look strong and I’m pretty sure they used to be a moat.

Here is Porchester Castle near Portsmouth down the bottom of England this castle is very old but you can still see everything that was put in place as a defense when it was used properly so those ones may have been easy to guess but these next two throws something else into the mix, Prague Castle, you can find this castle in Prague in the Czech Republic without me saying anything you may have guessed that it was a palace it has beautiful details with lots of thought put into the architecture but if you follow the rules of what makes a castle this one makes it Carcassonne a medieval town in the South of France such a stunning area filled with history again.

By looking at this place you may think it’s a castle with its high defensive walls and it looks unbreakable well this is neither a castle nor a palace it is in fact a citadel what is that you are well a citadel is a fortress or defended area up on high grounds.
