Copenhagen Cowboy Season 1 Episode 1: If most shows started with a woman strangled on a pig farm while she threw up and sows screamed like crazy, I would think that was a little strange. But Copenhagen Cowboy is a Nicolas Winding Refn no-show, so something like this is to be expected.

We’ll talk about this again later when we know more about what’s happening, but the turn the scene takes is hardly enlightening. If anything, we have more questions now than when we started, but let’s not jump the gun.

Most of Miu the Mysterious is about Miu, who is, as the title says, very mysterious. The young undocumented immigrant woman Rosella, the head of a strange crime family, bought might or might not have magical powers. It looks like Rosella thinks so. People often call it a lucky charm. Rosella believes Miu can help her get pregnant, and she’s willing to give her $10,000 for the chance. In exchange, Miu gets to do his things. She sleeps upstairs with her dog Rosella and her husband, Sven, who is almost always quiet. At the table, you can eat. Most importantly, she doesn’t have to “work,” which in this family means being prostituted by Rosella’s violent brother Andre.

It’s not a secret that this place is terrible and that illegal immigrants are taken advantage of. The Albanian girls below laugh as they tell Miu what their jobs are. Miu watches them from a distance until she spots one of them and then looks at her up close. She doesn’t say much. The others don’t like the idea that she’s lucky, which is understandable. How, of all places, can there be happiness here? What can Miu offer that they can’t since they’ve already given so much?

Miu quickly figures out that things won’t go as planned. Rosella makes him sit in the room while her husband, Sven, fucks her awkwardly. She thinks that just having him there will magically make her get pregnant. Miu and the rest of us saw Sven rape one of Andre’s girls before he was beaten half to death for it. As he pokes and grunts, Refn joins in with the pigs’ squeaking, blurring the line between human and animal. This is a trick he does a lot, and it’s always related to sex or violence.

The following day, Rosella thinks she is pregnant, so instead of the ten grand she promised Miu, she gives her eight grand. If she fights, there will be less. Rosella has made it a habit to take advantage of weak women. You can see here that one of the Albanian girls called her a psychopath before. She hardly notices when Andre attacks Sven at the table. Andre doesn’t believe in anything that Mius says is supernatural, and Rosella doesn’t either when she wakes up bleeding in the middle of the night. Miu is sent to live with the other girls downstairs. Cimona, a young woman with a good heart who is in a bad situation and wants to get away, is her only friend. She tries at the end of the episode. As she runs along the side of the road, the camera pans past from the point of view of a passing car and then slowly stops. The man inside has white hair, and his gloves are black leather. As we saw in the first scene, he picks up Cimona and tries to choke her.
