Are Demi Lovato And Selena Gomez Still Friends

We all know that sadly friendships come and go, and celebs can be just as prone to best-friend breakups as the rest of us.

And Demi Lovato just revealed that her on-again-off-again friendship with Selena Gomez is definitively off again.

And Demi Lovato is definitely grateful for her time at Disney.

However, most of those friendships from her Disney days haven’t followed her into adulthood.

Many fans have still held out hope for Demi and Selena Gomez though because these two go way back.

Even before being on Disney, they were on the show Barney together as kids.

Then they became BFFs in their teen years and we got to see their friendship blossom at events and in their adorable vlogs.

But their friendship eventually became strained as they came into adulthood.

The two grew apart and many fans’ hearts were broken over this.

Seriously you guys, friendship break-ups can be way worse than romantic break-ups.

We’ve all been there and it’s the worst!

And since they’ve parted ways, Demi and Sel have been sweet to each other publicly for the most part and they had one reunion in 2017, but they haven’t really been part of each other’s lives.

But we all got a glimmer of hope for their friendship when Selena Gomez posted a touching tribute to Demi after her emotional Grammy’s performance earlier this year.

She shared a photo of Demi singing and wrote a quote, “I wish there were words to describe how beautiful, inspirational, and DESERVED this moment was, Demi, I’m so happy for you. Thank you for your courage and bravery.”

And we were like could this be it?

Is this the rekindling we wanted to happen for so long?

Both Demi and Selena have had a challenging few years with both their mental and physical health.

Could this have been the olive branch we all needed for these two to reconcile their friendship?!

Well…at the time Demi never responded to Sel’s sweet post, but now she’s spilling all the tea on their friendship status and what she thought about that IG post.

Alright, so our sister publication Harper’s Bazaar just revealed that Demi Lovato is their May 2020 cover star.

Obviously, those photos were taken before we were all social distancing at home, but Demi looks absolutely beautiful!

In the issue, Demi opened up about her music, her recovery from her overdose, and her friendships.

Demi revealed that her friendships with her previous Disney Channel friends including the Jonas Brothers, Selena Gomez, and Miley Cyrus have changed over the years.

And Demi told Harper’s Bazaar that despite the fact that they have been friendly to each other publicly, she and Selena no longer keep in touch.

And Demi even hinted that she felt conflicted about Selena’s Instagram post applauding her Grammy’s performance because they had lost contact over the years.

Demi said quote, “When you grow up with somebody, you’re always going to have a love for them. But I’m not friends with her, so the Instagram post felt …,” but then she stopped herself.

She continued on and said quote, “I will always have a love for her, and I wish everybody nothing but the best.”

So clearly there is still some weirdness between Demi and Selena, but Demi bit her tongue and didn’t want to get into it.

Like we said before, both Demi and Selena have been through a lot both together and on their own, and as sad as it is, sometimes it’s for the best when people grow apart.

And either way, while Demi and Selena might not be BFFs anymore, it’s clear these two will always support each other when times get tough.

Back in 2018, just 6 days after Demi’s overdose, Selena said that quote, “All I’m saying is, I reached out personally. I didn’t do a public thing. I didn’t want to. I…I love her. I’ve known her since I was seven. So…it’s…that’s what I’ll say.”

And at the time of Selena’s kidney transplant back in 2017, Demi spoke to People magazine about how proud she is of Selena and how happy she is that she was healing.

Demi also added that quote, “I think that she is a very strong woman.”

So it’s good to see that despite their differences, Demi and Sel are still supportive during challenging moments in life.

And fans are taking to Twitter to share their support for these two, regardless of where their friendship stands.

One person wrote quote, “Now y’all can LET IT GO … they have a mutual love for each other bc of the history but they aren’t friends.. accept it and stop the hate”

Another said quote, “THEY ARE HUMANS TOO! YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT HAS HAPPENED BETWEEN
THEM! WE ALSO ALL HAVE PEOPLE WHO WE ARE NOT FRIENDS WITH ANYMORE AND THAT IS NORMAL.”

And another wrote quote, “all the people in the responses acting as if you still talk to your kindergarten friends”

But Demi didn’t just talk about her relationship with Selena.

She also shared that she’s no longer in touch with the Jonas Brothers, but she’s still close with Miley Cyrus.

Demi even recently appeared on Miley’s Instagram talk show, Bright Minded, and they gushed over each other.

Demi told Harper’s Bazaar that quote, “I talk to Miley. She’s awesome, and I love her to death and
always will, always have. But I think she’s kind of the only one from that era that I still stay in touch with.”

And while many of her friendships have faded, Demi still looks back at her Disney days and is thankful that it got her to where she is today.

She said quote, “I’m grateful for the opportunities that I got. Do I wish that I’d had more downtime? Yes. I think when you are a teenager and you’re given your big break, you’ll do anything to make it happen.”

And we’ve gotta say while all those Disney stars might not be BFFs still today, they have all definitely worked hard and carved out their own paths in their careers.

And it seems like regardless of where they end up, they will always at least support each other.
