By The End Of The Month, Alec Baldwin Will Be Charged With Manslaughter That Was Not His Fault

Santa Fe’s District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said in a statement on Thursday that Alec Baldwin and prop armorer Hannah Gutierrez will be charged with involuntary manslaughter by the end of the month for the death of cinematographer Hayla Hutchins. Hutchins died because Baldwin and Gutierrez were careless.

Baldwin was practising a scene on the set of Rust when he accidentally killed the cinematographer by firing a prop gun with real bullets. But the actor didn’t know that the gun was loaded with a live round because the movie’s assistant director, Dave Halls, told him it was safe to use.

Forbes says that Halls was charged with negligent use of a deadly weapon because he told the crew that the gun was “cold,” which meant it was safe to use. Halls gave the weapon to Baldwin. The assistant director took a plea deal and was given a six-month probation with a suspended sentence.

The prosecutor said that after a year-long investigation, there is enough evidence to support the charges against the actor and the prop armorer. Authorities also noted that the study found that the two people were to blame for the accident that killed their coworker.

On the other hand, the district attorney said that the actor will not be charged with hurting Joel Souza, who injured his shoulder and was released from the hospital. Baldwin has not said anything about the charges yet.
