Creepshow Season 3 Episode 1: Filmmaker George Romero and author Stephen King’s Creepshow debuted that year.
It sparked the production of two sequels and a flood of horror anthology films, such as The Twilight Zone and Cat’s Eye, the latter of which adapted two of King’s short stories from the collection Night Shift.
In 2019, Creepshow jumped to television as a series on the streaming service Shudder, bringing with it all the campy horror fans have come to love from the original film and some brand new scary stories.
Season 2 premiered in April of 2021, and Season 3 is scheduled for a September 23 release. Will the third time prove to be the charm, though?
Creepshow Season 3 Episode 1 Preview
In the opening episode of Creepshow Season 3, the first section is titled “Mums,” and it stars Ethan Embry (Empire Records, Sweet Home Alabama), Malone Thomas (MacGyver), Brayden Benson (Tag), Erin Beute (The Vampire Diaries), and Lowrey Brown (Hillbilly Elegy).
The boy is taken from his mother and placed in the care of his abusive father. His paranormal musings are confirmed when he discovers that the seeds he planted from her bag did not grow into the expected flowers.
Acting-wise, “Mums” falls short because it is too predictable and similar to “Model Kid,” an episode from Season 2. The actors all seem to be just winging it, but it won’t put anyone off watching.
As a departure from his usual performances, Embry excels in the character of the abusive father. Benson’s wooden dialogue and unnatural reactions are the main culprits that pull the listener out of the plot.
The piece retains the campiness that people associate with Creepshow, but the special effects are scary enough on their own.
