You Know I Need Your Love You Got A Hold On Me
You know I need your love, you got that hold over me
Long as I got your love, you know that I’ll never leave
When I wanted you to share my life, I had no doubt in my mind
And it’s been you, woman, right down the line
I know how much I lean on you, only you can see
Changes that I’ve been through have left their mark on me
You’ve been as constant as a northern star, the brightest light that shines
It’s been you, woman, right down the line
I just wanna say this is my way
Of telling you everything I could never say before
Yeah, this is my way
Of telling you that every day I’m loving you so much more
‘Cause you believed in me through my darkest night
Put something better inside of me, you brought me into the light
Threw away all those crazy dreams, I put them all behind
And it was you, woman, right down the line
I just wanna say this is my way
Of telling you everything I could never say before
Yeah, this is my way
Of telling you that every day I’m loving you so much more
If I should doubt myself, if I’m losing ground
I won’t turn to someone else, they’d only let me down
When I wanted you to share my life, I had no doubt in my mind
And it’s been you, woman, right down the line
Gerry Rafferty
On April 16, 1947, the wonderful Scottish singer Gerry Rafferty was born on this day. He died ten years ago when he was 63 years old
In the seventies, duos were very fashionable, but with group names, to mislead the great influence that Simon and Garfunkel had exerted in the world of music.
He began his career with Stealers Wheel, achieving great success with the song “Stuck In The Middle” (used later by Quentin Tarantino for his “Reservoir Dogs” ), before returning to his role as a singer-songwriter with “City To City ”(1978), LP that reached number 1 on the American Billboard and contains his best-known song,“ Baker Street ”, on which Raphael Ravenscroft’s saxophone sounds.
The album, with Murphy’s co-production again, featured the likes of Paul Jones, Andy Fairweather-Low, and Tommy Eyre.
Another hit single from the same LP was “Right Down The Line.”
In 1978, Gerry, who followed him, released his second solo album, “City to City” and there is that wonderful song that is ‘Baker Street ‘, with the magic sax of a wonderful musician, Raphael Ravenscroft. I know a lot about recording – it attracted me a lot – because 20 years later I would work with the guitarist from those sessions for my CCCP project
