Why Is Henry Cavill Not Returning As Superman? This may not be fantastic news for those who liked Henry Cavill as Clark Kent. The actor has stated that he will not reprise his role as Superman in James Gunn’s upcoming picture.
Why Is Henry Cavill Not Returning As Superman?
The 39-year-old actor recently admitted he wouldn’t be returning to the character of Superman in James Gunn’s upcoming movie.
James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy and newly appointed co-chairman of DC Studios, is penning a Superman film that will not star Henry Cavill, who called the development “not the easiest news” given his recent announcement that he would reprise the role.
Superman’s early life will be the centrepiece of Gunn’s upcoming film adaptation, taking the character on a new path. The merger between Warner Brothers and Discovery, Inc. has led to massive restructuring across the firm, including cancelling dozens of projects at DC Studios.
In a post on Instagram on October 24, Cavill surprised fans by announcing his return to the role of Clark Kent.
But it seems like things have changed since then.
Cavill has played Superman in movies since 2013’s Man of Steel, most recently making a brief appearance in this year’s Black Adam. Having left his starring role on the Netflix series The Witcher in October, he decided to reprise his role as Superman in November.
