This October 1 opens, finally, in theaters ‘No time to die’, the last film where Daniel Craig will play James Bond after he was released as the secret agent 007 in 2006 with ‘Casino Royale’.
Daniel Craig has made it very clear what he thinks about Hugh Jackman being chosen to replace him after his departure as James Bond after the premiere of ‘No time to die’.
It is curious that now that there is talk of who will be the successor of Daniel Craig as James Bond and in what direction the adventures of 007 will take from this moment on, it is suggested that the franchise should follow the model of the Marvel films. It is true that Marvel has come up with its own formula for success for his productions (themed films, directors specialized in a genre, changing the tone in each installment …), but it could also be argued that it was Daniel Craig’s James Bond that first sowed the seeds of a new genre of heroes, with and without superpowers, consciously or unconsciously taking advantage of Marvel’s best idea (it was the difference that Stan Lee made in the world of comics): get superheroes out of their comfort zone, make them sensitive, fallible, without giving up the world of fantasy. Who has gotten the most out of it, in the long run, is another story, but Daniel Craig’s James Bond has made a difference in the way he approaches the franchise heroes in the cinema by using Marvel and taking it to the physical aspect of his character. James Bond was ahead of Marvel (two years before the premiere ofIron Man ), Jason Bourne (the difference between Bourne and Bourne Supremacy: The Ultimatum is perhaps the best example of Craig’s Bond effect on gender) and Ethan Hunt from Mission Impossible (there’s an incredible leap between Mission Impossible III and the saga starting with Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol ).
Why Daniel Craig Is Done With Bond
Daniel Craig is promoting the film through several interviews and in one of the most recent, the actor caused laughter from many at his response to whether Hugh Jackman could replace him in the role.
It was Hugh Jackman himself who has shared this moment on his Instagram account where Daniel appears interviewed by Scottish presenter Lorraine Kelly who mentions advice that Jackman gave him in the past while introducing the topic of his replacement. To which Craig interrupts her and says seriously: “He is not going to be”, and later affirms: “Above my corpse “.
“Well … that kills that rumor! Daniel, mate, you will always be @007 to me. #notimetodie. I’m IN. @lorrainekellysmith,” Jackman writes in the post.
Hugh Jackman Was A Candidate For 007
Before Daniel Craig was cast as James Bond, Hugh Jackman was one of the loudest names to replace Pierce Brosnan. “I got a call from my agent saying, ‘There is some possible interest in you by Bond, are you interested?'” The interpreter told the British Press Association in 2011. “At the time I was not. I was about to premier ‘X-Men 2’ and Wolverine had become my life and I didn’t want to make two such iconic characters at the same time. “
Although, Jackman admitted that he would have loved to do it: “I think all men at some point think about playing James Bond, so it was not right then, but it may be right if he comes back.”
No New James Bond Until 2022
In the midst of all the rumors about who will be chosen after Daniel Craig for the role, the producers of James Bond, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, have affirmed that the search will not begin until at least the year 2022.
“We’re not thinking about that at all,” Broccoli tells ‘THR’. “ We want Daniel to have his moment of celebration. Next year we will start to think about the future. “
While Wilson adds: “It has been a great Bond. It is a very big hole to fill. I can not even [think if it is] possible.”
