The two options here are to either become a “citizen” of Borderland and live there permanently like the previous masters of the face-card games or leave Borderland and return to the real world. Many of the season’s characters have wondered aloud if they could ever return to the real world.

All seven of Arisu, Usagi, Kuina, Chishiya, Aguni, Niragi, and Akane have turned down the offer to remain in Borderland. They are returned to the actual world, where they find themselves among the survivors of a meteor strike in Tokyo, waking up in a hospital. Ann, who appears dead in Borderland, is in a coma and will recover.

Banda and Yaba, two minor characters from the Solitary Confinement game, are among the many who have chosen to stay in Borderland.
