Who Is The Prince That Was Promised? In episode 4 of House of the Dragon, we learn more about how Aegon’s dream relates to the Prince That Was Promised prophecy from Game of Thrones.

House of the Dragon on HBO is putting a much larger emphasis on prophecy, dreams, and magic than they did in Game of Thrones.

Melisandre’s mission to locate the Prince That Was Promised takes on new significance as the Targaryens of the House of the Dragon are shown to be driven by the desire to fulfill Aegon’s prophecy.

Who Is The Prince That Was Promised?

The Prince That Was Promised in Aegon’s dream may have been either Jon Snow or Daenerys Targaryen.

Daenerys returned the dragons to Westeros after nearly 150 years; they were instrumental in their victory over the Night King.

Jon Snow’s primary mission as King in the North was to rally the realm against the White Walkers, a cause in which Daenerys would not have readily participated if Jon hadn’t first convinced her of the danger posed by these creatures.

When Arya, not Jon or Daenerys, was the one to kill the Night King with the knife, the meaning of the Prince That Was Promised prophesy got jumbled. However, one interpretation of the prophecy stated the dragon had “three heads.”

Although this could mean that Jon, Daenerys, and Arya are the three dragons, Arya isn’t a Targaryen.

After the Night King was defeated, Melisandre removed her necklace and passed away as a centuries-old woman without revealing the identity of the Prince That Was Promised.

Game of Thrones may have forgotten the significance of the Prince That Was Promised in the lore due to the incomplete fulfillment of the prophecy. Still, the dream in House of the Dragon confirms which characters ultimately fit the description.

While the official Game of Thrones Facebook page has designated Jon as the Prince That Was Promised, Daenerys’ claim to the title is given much more weight in the books by the House of the Dragon.

Daenerys Targaryen is as formidable as Jon Snow, having been conceived in a blazing cloud of ash and salt, raising the last surviving dragon as her weapon and rallying the kingdom against the cold and dark.

Even though Aegon’s dream wasn’t explained in Game of Thrones, it seems like the mystery will be resolved in House of the Dragon.
