Divorce proceedings were initiated on September 25, 2009, in Los Angeles, and were concluded on December 28, 2010, alleging irreconcilable differences.

After a two-year courtship, Rossum proposed to writer/director Sam Esmail in August of 2015. The pair wed on May 29, 2017, at a New York City Reform synagogue.

After keeping her pregnancy a secret from the public, Rossum gave birth to their daughter on May 23, 2021.

By marriage, she is related to Vera Wang, who was married to Rossum’s cousin, Arthur P. Becker, an investor, and real estate developer.

In an interview, Rossum stated that she is “a spiritual person, but not especially religious.”
