In the wake of her arrest at the end of March, Hope Solo, the former US goalkeeper, pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and stated she was "slowly coming back" after treatment at an inpatient alcohol treatment programme.

In a North Carolina parking lot, Solo was found passed out behind the wheel of her automobile and charged with impaired driving, resisting arrest, and child cruelty.

She was driving with her two children in the car when the police pulled her over for a traffic infraction.

According to her attorney, Chris Clifton, the allegations of misdemeanour child abuse and resisting arrest were voluntarily dismissed.

Virginia District Judge Victoria Roemer sentenced Solo to 24 months on probation and 30 days in jail, according to the newspaper

Her time in an inpatient rehabilitation institution was credited with 30 days.

I pride myself in motherhood and what my husband and I have done day in and day out for over two years throughout the pandemic with two-year old twins. Hope Solo

While I’m proud of us, it was incredibly hard and I made a huge mistake. Easily the worst mistake of my life. I understand what a destructive part of my life alcohol had become. The upside of making a mistake this big is that the hard lessons are learned quickly, and at times, very painfully. Hope Solo

Afterwards, the 40-year-old thanked her family and friends as well as her legal team, as well as the staff at the treatment centre.

I continue to be a student of the greatest school called life and I will continue to learn and grow from these experiences. Hope Solo
