1.Stories by Rabindranath Tagore (Top Hindi Web Series In India 2020)
On Rabindranath Tagore’s 158th birth anniversary, the series Stories By Rabindranath Tagore was made more accessible to a larger audience by making it available in English and Tamil, apart from its original Hindi version.
The show launched on 6 July 2015 on The EPIC Channel. Stories by Rabindranath Tagore is a 2015 Indian Hindi television series that aired on the EPIC channel. It is directed by Anurag Basu. The series features Radhika Apte, Sumeet Vyas, and Amrita Puri, and has music by Arijit Singh, Shaan, and Shalmali Kholgade. The 26-episode series streams as premium content only on EPIC On.
The show ‘Stories by Rabindranath Tagore’ features famous stories written by Tagore like ‘Chokherbali’ and ‘Charulata’ on TV in an episodic format. The show, which is an adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s novel by the same name, went on air on July 6 and is telecasted at 10 PM on Mondays and Tuesdays.
‘Stories by Rabindranath Tagore’ is based in the early twentieth century of the undivided Bengal. They are set in a politically volatile period in Calcutta where the protagonists pour in from their diverse rural, social, and cultural backgrounds to encourage an upcoming new world. It’s noticed that Tagore portrayed his women characters as chance takers who would almost always resist the family and the social rules.
The show will showcase some of Tagore’s masterpiece stories including ‘Binodini’, ‘Charulata’, ‘Atithi’, and ‘Kabuliwala’.

After release, the series received positive reviews from critics, with praise for the performances. The show holds a 92% certified fresh rating on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes based on 25 reviews, with an average rating of 6.62 out of 10. The critical consensus reads: “Gorgeous, grim, and unexpected, Sacred Games is saved from its procedural premise by its dense plotting and a superb cast.
The first and second seasons had eight episodes each with a total list of sixteen episodes. The second season of Sacred Games, like season one, is dense with references to mythology. However, this time around, lead writer Varun Grover and his team have drawn not solely from Hindu mythology but from epics from all around the globe. Season two itself is a more international story, which heavily borrows themes from mythological tales such as the Mahabharata and the Epic of Gilgamesh. Typically, these references are quite easy, however, on alternative occasions, they might be rather obtuse.
3. Selection Day
Movies about sports are sporadic offerings from the Indian entertainment industry. It is a rare idea when it comes to television. But with the explosion of options on the digital scene, there is more room to experiment and take risks with stories.
Udayan Prasad, director of Netflix’s latest Indian original series, Selection Day, made a statement recently that, in hindsight, explains everything that is wrong about the show. Prasad is an Indian born British filmmaker, who recounted a story about returning to India – specifically New Delhi – after several years being away, and expressed surprise at how the language had changed. This wasn’t the India he’d left behind, but it was certainly the India he wanted to understand, though this show.
Cast: Mohammad Samad, Yash Dholye, Karanvir Malhotra, Rajesh Tailang, Ratna Pathak Shah, Mahesh Manjrekar, Akshay Oberoi.
Selection Day opens in Bandona village, where the Kumar brothers, Radha (Yash Dholye) and Manju (Mohammad Samad), are rightfully renowned for their exceptional batting skills. No bowler in and around the village has their measure. Their father Mohan Kumar (Rajesh Tailang) puts relentless pressure on the boys to keep playing at their best and calls them Champion No. 1 and Champion No. 2 lest they forget what their goal in life is.
4. Jamtara: Sabka Number Aayega
Jamtara – Sabka Number Ayega is an Indian crime drama web television series directed by Soumendra Padhi and written by Trishant Srivastava. The story revolves around the phishing operations in the Jamtara district of Jharkhand. It was released on Netflix on 10 January 2020.
Cast – Sparsh Shrivastava, Anshumaan Pushkar, Monika Panwar, Aksha Pardasany, Amit Sial.
In 2015, Padhi read an article about the phishing operations carried out by school children in Jamtara district which sparked his interest. He sent his writing team to do research. The character of female SP Dolly Sahu was based on Jamtara’s Superintendent Jaya Roy.
Based on a true story, this Netflix series by director Soumendra Padhi is both engaging and entertaining. It presents an authentic picture of rural Jharkhand. Storytelling is taut and performances are convincing but the makers neglect to go into the details of phishing. There’s no mention of how the youngsters got together to scam people or from where they got this idea. Instead, the makers choose to focus on the power dynamics between Rocky and Brajesh on one side and Sunny and his wife Gudiya (Monika Panwar) on the other.
Netflix’s latest Indian original series, Jamtara, makes a somewhat assured attempt at exposing it for what it really is. It’s something that we’ve always known – few crimes, big or small, can ever be committed without the law is either aware of or prepared for it, and the news isn’t limited to what has happened but also what the consumer wants it to be.
5. Yeh Meri Family
Yeh Meri Family is an Indian comedy-drama web series written by Saurabh Khanna and directed by Sameer Saxena for The Viral Fever. It also stars Mona Singh, Akarsh Khurana, Ahan Nirban, Ruhi Khan, Prasad Reddy, as members of the Gupta family and their acquaintances and Revathi Pillai as harshu’s love interest.
“Summer is not a season, it’s a festival,” declares 12-year-old Harshu (a likable Vishesh Bansal) – an average student, and average son to an average family in an average-sized town – on his first day of summer vacation in Jaipur, 1998. In the first few time-capsule minutes of Yeh Meri Family, the TVF template is clear: Nostalgia is not an emotion, it’s a business.
If you missed the pride of being the birthday boy in school because your date of birth falls in May, during the summer vacations. If you had to live under the shadow of your elder brother’s achievements throughout your childhood. If you were the shaitan bachha of your house who used to get an earful from his parents almost on a daily basis. If you had to go for tuitions when others used to play in the evening because you were not good at studies. If you had got love in a game of FLAMES with your childhood crush but couldn’t muster the courage to express your feelings to her. If you are familiar with Surbhi and Swabhimaan. If you read the first pornographic magazine of your life secretly on the terrace of your house and watched Fashion TV after your parents had fallen asleep. If you miss all these moments badly, TVF’s Yeh Meri Family is a must-watch for you.

“Rangbaaz” the new web series about swaggering gangsterism in the badlands of Uttar Pradesh, scores pretty high in the sphere of restrained freedom.
The story of this Zee5 web-series is based on the infamous Rajput gangster from Rajasthan, Anandpal Singh. A brief reading upon him and the various fan groups on Facebook dedicated to his machismo gives a sense of the deep support and rabid excitement within the community he had at his disposal. Here, he is called Amarpal Singh (played by a stoic and charming Jimmy Shergill). His best friend is Jayram Godara, from the opposing Jatt clan (Sushant Singh in a memorable performance). Anupriya Choudhury (Gul Panag, effortless in a tonally frozen character- one of those that convince the viewer of their importance, but on whom the writers expended the least time) comes in as an ally mid-way through the series. Together, they blast through a host of villains, on whom are expended a host of shoot-outs, none of which are truly satisfying or even gritty. They play out, frosted, clinical, and rehearsed.

Cricket Fever is the first international series produced by Condé Nast Entertainment and the first Indian sports documentary on Netflix.
The IPL only encourages a hit-and-miss version of cricket will find much to take away from the series. It provides a fascinating insight into how a team is built with disparate individuals and how it then works on and off the field in the face of day-to-day challenges. The series is a lowdown on Mumbai Indian’s 2018 campaign, which did not go as well as the team owners and managers would have expected. In 2017, the franchise had won the IPL title. In 2018, they failed to defend the trophy, finishing fifth on the leader board.
