Toni Michelle Braxton was born in Severn, Maryland, on October 7, 1967. She comes from a family that is religious and loves music. Michael and Evelyn were both clergymen and pastors at the Methodist church near their home. The power company was also where Braxton’s dad worked. Her mother used to sing in opera and now works at a beauty salon. Toni’s grandfather on her mom’s side was also a pastor. She is the oldest of six children. Her brother Michael was born in 1968, and she has four younger sisters (Traci 1971, Towanda 1973, Trina 1974, and Tamar 1977). The first time Braxton sang in public was in her church choir. She went to Bowie State University in Maryland to go to college with the goal of becoming a teacher.
