The theme of survival after a tragedy continues to be a desirable arena for making stories and this is basically because the human spirit is put to the test; in the face of an event, routes are followed, solutions are devised, mistakes are made, tensions rise, there is a recess where it is believed to have found the solution and that was just a false exit; a greater test for the protagonists ensues and that will lead them to the true solution of the problem according to the teachings to which they have been receptive after their adversity test.

Winslet, as always, is well acting and perhaps the only element to underline in the structure of the script is that her character undergoes a specific transformation, from being the decision-maker, after the accident and with an injured leg, she loses that spirit and most of the time assumes the role of unprotected. And some of their decisions are made on impulse, without thinking about the consequences.

While Elba, reserved and out of element at first, is assuming leadership, and although he is not an Indiana Jones, he only appears on screen and reaffirms his cinematic image of Alpha male.

If we add to this that it is an interracial romance that arose in the middle of the inclemency of the tragedy and that there is also a beautiful and frisky dog, the picture is perfect.

Hany Abu-Assad enters the international Hollywood leagues with The Mountain Among Us after his previous films (Paradise Now and Omar) were both nominated for the best foreign film at the Oscar.
