This week, we delve deeper into the covert and examine Bo-Katan’s role as the former regent of Mandalore. Furthermore, we get to see more of Grogu and how his past ties into the broader story.
The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 5: The Ending Explained
In Episode 5, Greef Karga is informed of a pirate attack on Nevarro. Consequently, the High Magistrate reaches out to Gorian Shard, demanding that he halt the assault and leave the system immediately, or else face the New Republic. However, Gorian Shard ignores the warning and proceeds with the attack.
A Desperate Plea for Help and a Fateful Decision
In a different part of the galaxy, Captain Carson Teva receives Greef Karga’s distress call at a New Republic base asking for assistance against the pirates. Zeb Orrelios, an original crew member of the Ghost from Star Wars Rebels, wishes Teva luck as he leaves for Coruscant to seek authorization from his superiors to send backup to Nevarro. Meanwhile, Officer G68 provides her perspective on the situation. Teva departs without receiving the necessary permissions and reinforcements.
Back on Nevarro, Karga evacuates his people to the open desert to escape Shard’s pirates, reassuring them that New Republic aid is on its way. Concurrently, Teva seeks out Din Djarin, hoping to recruit him to fight against Shard’s pirates. Spotting Bo-Katan Kryze’s ship, Teva lands and approaches the Mandalorian covert on foot. It is revealed that R5-D4 shared their location with Teva, who then presents Karga’s message to Din and the other Mandalorians. Teva leaves the decision to help the High Magistrate of Nevarro up to Din.
Uniting the Covert to Defend Nevarro
Alone with the covert, Din gathers everyone and attempts to persuade them to save Nevarro from the pirates. He succeeds after mentioning Karga’s offer of land for them to settle and be accepted once more. After Din’s speech, Paz Vizla questions their reasons for fighting for Karga but eventually pledges his support to Din, convincing the rest to defend Nevarro.
A Grueling Battle for Freedom
Armed with Bo-Katan’s Gauntlet-class ship and Din’s N-1 Starfighter, the Mandalorian fighters head to Nevarro to free it from Gorian Shard and his pirates. They find the city overrun by pirates and launch their assault, with Din spearheading the attack in his fighter and luring Shard’s Corsair away.
Once the skies are clear, Bo-Katan deploys the initial Mandalorian squad to eliminate the pirates within the city. She then attacks the Corsair as its snub fighters pursue Din from afar. As the battle rages on, the pirates engage the Mandalorians, with Paz Vizla arriving as backup. The Armorer also enters the fray, taking out several pirates operating a heavy cannon. Ultimately, the Mandalorians triumph over Gorian’s forces, leaving their leader to fend for himself.
In a final, desperate move, Gorian orders his crew to fire on the city itself. Din targets the ship’s engine, causing it to crash before inflicting any damage. Following the battle, Karga expresses his gratitude to the Mandalorians for liberating Nevarro from the pirates. Karga grants them a vast piece of land to settle on in return for their assistance.
Meanwhile, the Armorer requests a private conversation with Bo-Katan. She instructs the former regent to remove her helmet, a request Bo-Katan initially questions. Upon complying, the Armorer reveals that she saw the mythosaur and that their people must unite once more to usher in a new age of Mandalore. She then entrusts Bo-Katan with the responsibility of uniting their people.
