Spain Vs. Costa Rica Timing, Prediction, Lineups

Spain Vs. Costa Rica: On Wednesday, November 23, at 5:00 p.m. (peninsular time), Spain’s debut against Costa Rica takes place in the group E match of the Qatar 2022 World Cup at the  Al Thumama Stadium.

The Spanish National Team is already projecting what will be the World Cup debut in Qatar 2022, this Wednesday, November 23, against Costa Rica. Although on paper La Roja is superior to Los Ticos, the first game of a World Cup always brings with it extra flavors that can play against.

With a squad with several youngsters and many debutants in a World CupLuis Enrique is very clear about his game idea, but there are certain unknowns regarding the starting team.

In 2010, Spain became the first team to win the World Cup, capping up a remarkable spell of dominance for the national team that also included championships at the European Championships in 2008 and 2012.

La Roja has had a rough few years, even by their standards. They were knocked out in the group stage in 2014, lost two of their three matches in the finals, and were defeated in the round of 16 in their most recent appearance.

While Spain’s Euro 2020 semifinal run proves the team is more than capable of having a significant impact at this tournament, their round of 16 loss to hosts Russia in 2018 demonstrates that they still have room to improve.

On Thursday, Luis Enrique’s squad defeated Jordan 3-1 in their first match since finishing their UEFA Nations League campaign with a 1-0 win over Portugal at the end of September.

Spain won League A Group 2 to progress to the tournament’s semifinals, cruising through Group B in the World Cup to earn a berth in the finals. They went 6-1-2 in those eight games, making 19 points.

Group E also features Japan and Germany; the former will be heavy favorites to advance to the round of 16, and their matchup is set for Sunday night.

In 1990, Costa Rica qualified for the World Cup for the first time, and they advanced to the round of 16. In 2002 and 2006, however, they were eliminated in the group stage.

In 2014, the national team famously advanced to the quarterfinals, finishing first in Group D after Uruguay, Italy, and England and then defeating Greece in the first knockout round on penalties.

As a result, Costa Rica met the Netherlands in the round of eight, a match that ended in a goalless draw and was ultimately won by the Dutch 4-3 on penalties.

Los Ticos have only lost one of their past 13 matches across all competitions, and they won their most recent friendly, a 2-0 triumph against Nigeria on November 11.

Coach Luis Fernando Suarez, 62, was re-signed after June’s 1-0 victory over New Zealand in the intercontinental playoffs. He will be coaching in his third World Cup, having previously taken Ecuador and Honduras to the competition.

Despite being long shots to get to the knockout stages, a win for Costa Rica against Spain would set them up beautifully for their match against Japan on November 27.
