It was quite difficult for ‘ Shameless ‘ to face its final stretch. Not only because of its production in times of pandemic (which we will talk about) but because Fiona’s departure at the end of season 9 meant a change in the cycle and led the series (which we can see on Movistar + ) towards its next term.
And so it has been, season 11 of the fiction developed by John Wells premiered last December with a certain chicha calm in which the Gallaghers and relatives try to continue making a living as they can weather the coronavirus pandemic.

The colorful history of Frank and his dysfunctional group of offspring has closed with a series of episodes in which the pandemic and its economic, social, and health consequences have played a fundamental role. With Lip obsessed with selling the house to start a new life with Tami and her son, and Frank suffering from increasingly unpredictable dementia derived from excess alcohol; the Gallaghers’ adventures as a united family under one roof had to end. Lip gets the balance to tip in his favor, although after getting one company interested in housing, it finally opts for another. Ian and Mickey, meanwhile, decide to move to the West End. Despite the fact that the second shows disagreement with the new location of his home, he ends up giving in.
Carl, unhappy despite having managed to become a policeman, ends up being referred to as a parking meter controller after arguing with his boss. However, at the Alibi’s farewell, the colleague with whom he goes suggests that they stay at the venue, something that, although it is discussed, does not end up being resolved. Lip tells Liam, the youngest of the family, that whatever happens, he’s going to be able to stay with him forever.
In this way, although the fiction leaves an open ending for the brothers, this is not the case with the patriarch of the family. After miraculously surviving the heroin overdose of the previous episode, a completely disoriented Frank wanders through the city that has seen him grow old until he ends up in a church. His dementia makes him believe that he is the altar boy in charge of lighting the candles, and allowing him to do so, the priest calls an ambulance to come and get him.

Post-Credits Scene And … Open Ending?
Shameless says goodbye on a bitter note, especially for how Frank dies, alone in a hospital as so many people have died in real life because of the coronavirus.
However, for his family, the future is a little more hopeful.
Ian has been married to Mickey for a year and they have a new house, and they are already thinking about having a child.
Debbie, with a dangerous new girlfriend, is considering moving to Texas.
Lip has received a new offer on the house, and Tami appears to be pregnant again.
And Carl, with his new job in the police force, is seriously considering buying the Alibi.
The end for the Gallaghers is open, but Frank has not had his last word. Because in a post-credits scene it is shown how two toilets incinerate his corpse while commenting on the stench of alcohol that he releases. As soon as the crematorium is turned on, everything explodes into the air. And Frank, with the same misery and self-confidence with which he lived, disappears from the face of the earth with a last act of rebellion, so characteristic of him, an anti-system of those that no longer remain.
John Wells, showrunner of the series, has told The Hollywood Reporter about the outcome, of which he has defended that not everything is closed: “We are so committed as scriptwriters and members of the series in their lives that you will want to fill as a spectator some spaces in white and not knowing everything chewed. “
