Riptide is a four-part mystery thriller on Channel 5 in Melbourne, Australia. Former EastEnders actor Jo Joyner leads the cast as Alison, a new wife who goes crazy with worry when her husband Sean goes out for a morning surf trip and doesn’t return.
Jason Herbison of Fremantle, Australia, made Riptide. He is also the Executive Producer of the famous soap opera Neighbours. Here’s everything you need to know about the show before it comes to Channel 5 in December 2022.

Riptide is a four-part thriller that starts on Channel 5 on Tuesday, December 27 at 9 p.m. and runs for four nights in a row until Friday, December 30, 2022. Riptide Preview
A terrible thing happens to a young couple who just got married and lived in the suburbs of Melbourne. Alison Weston is devastated when her new husband Sean, played by Peter O’Brien of Neighbours, goes surfing one morning and doesn’t return. After a thorough search of the coast near their home, the police say that Sean drowned in a dangerous riptide. However, a grieving Alison starts to think that something else happened to him as she becomes more aware of the tensions between her family and close friends.
Riptide Episode 1
Alison and Sean Weston just got married, and their life is almost perfect. They have a lot of money, live in a beautiful home on the coast, and love each other very much. But there’s trouble below the surface… Hannah, Alison’s daughter, is having trouble getting used to her new life of wealth. Ethan, Sean’s son, thinks Alison wants his money, and Michael, Alison’s ex-husband, wants her back. While Alison is excited about the future, everything changes the morning Sean goes surfing and never comes back.
Given that the riptide was dangerous, the police think that he drowned. Alison was thrown into a world of sadness in an instant. But even as a memorial service starts, she can’t let go of the idea that he might have died of something else. Since Ethan, Rachel, Michael, and Hannah’s friend Logan are all keeping secrets, Alison’s instincts are right: something terrible has happened to her husband, but what and by whom?
Riptide Episode 2
Alison is shocked when Ethan tells her that she has to leave the house in two weeks. Alison can’t help but wonder why Ethan only seems to care about Sean’s money. Her suspicions grow when she finds out that Ethan and Sean had a fight on the beach right before Sean was thought to have drowned. Alison tells the police about Ethan after talking to her neighbour Dan about her worries. When Ethan is brought in for questioning, he says he did nothing wrong, and Alison doesn’t know what to think. Late that night, the sound of a window breaking downstairs wakes her. Hannah believes that Ethan did it, but she also feels that Michael might have done it to scare Alison into moving into his flat. While Alison keeps wondering what happened to Sean, Hannah starts to worry that Logan might know more than he’s letting on. Michael and Logan have a secret link, and Sean’s killer is revealed, which is even more shocking.
Riptide Episode 3
Alison is determined to discover what happened to Sean, so Dan frames Michael. Fate helps him out when Alison discovers that Michael has the watch Sean was wearing the morning he went missing. Encouraged by Dan, Alison tells the police about the eye, which Hannah thinks is the worst betrayal. As Alison’s feelings for Dan grow, Dan makes sure Michael will die by moving Sean’s body and putting it in Michael’s storage unit. After getting a tip from 5 that Michael killed Sean, the police arrest him. But evidence casts doubt on Michael’s involvement, and his lawyer gets him out on bail. This makes Dan even more determined to stop Michael at any cost.
Riptide Episode 4
After making it look guilty, Michael ran away; Dan kept trying to get closer to Alison. Hannah, meanwhile, promises that she will find her father and clear his name. Just as Alison hits rock bottom, Dan starts to feel like the walls are closing in on him when he finds out that the real owners of his house are coming back from overseas. He then takes desperate steps to get Alison all to himself. Dan tries to take advantage of the situation by taking Alison to a mountain cabin and suggesting that they both start over somewhere else. Alison is tempted, but when Dan kisses her, she remembers what’s important. Alison says she is not ready for a relationship the following day. Alison thinks Dan has changed, and Hannah’s desperate call confirms her thoughts. Alison has to run for her life as a scary game of cat and mouse starts up in the bush.
