Rigby Middle School Shooting

An investigation is underway into a school shooting that took place inside and outside of Rigby Middle School and left three people including two students injured. Thursday morning shots were fired inside and outside of Rigby Middle School in the farming community of Jefferson County. Police say the suspect is a female a fellow sixth-grade student who walked into the school pulled a pistol out of her backpack and fired multiple times. Two fellow students and a school maintenance worker were struck with gunfire.

Sheriff Steve Anderson said,
“This is the worst nightmare a school district could ever face, during the shooting a teacher disarmed the student and detained her until law enforcement took her into custody, this is a very difficult and trying time for our community we want to especially thank our community”

Multiple agencies from around the region quickly responded to the school the three victims were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The school employee was released in the afternoon the two students are in stable condition and are expected to be released soon.

“The vast support that we have received is overwhelming and we are grateful to live in a community that cares about their students, cares about their schools, and is willing to offer that support”.

And there will be no school in the district today school counselors will be available for all students starting at 8 a.m at Rigby High School and governor brad little issuing a statement about the shooting writing quote,
“I am praying for the lives and safety of those involved in today’s tragic events thank you to our law enforcement agencies and school leaders for their efforts in responding to the incident”.

And Lane Mcnelly President of the Idaho Education Association also issuing a statement quote,
“We send positive thoughts to the victims of this tragic incident and hope for their full and rapid recovery. Patients will need to be at a premium while school officials and law enforcement agencies investigate, the situation the I-E-A and our local education associations are ready willing, and able to provide whatever support is needed for the staff students and community impacted by today’s act of violence”

An Idaho Superintendent Of Public Instruction Sheri Yabara also issuing her thoughts and prayers to all those involved in yesterday morning shootings and saying,
“She will do all she can for the community”.

And there are GoFundMe pages now set up for two adults involved in yesterday’s shooting, Jim Wilson is a custodian at Rigby Middle School he was shot during the shooting as of right now more than ten thousand dollars have been raised to help with his medical expenses, the other person is Krista Knighting in is a math teacher who got the gun away from the shooter to show appreciation for her actions the community is trying to raise three thousand dollars for her so far about a third of that goal has been met.
