Only Murders In The Building Season 2 Episode 8: Hello, Darkness (Recap) (Review)

Only Murders In The Building Season 2 Episode 8: Only Murders in the Building has to find a way to bring the season to a close and set the stage for the show’s future.

This means focusing on characters that may or may not play a role in the third season and wrapping up the storylines of those who won’t.

To find out who killed Bunny Folger, we need to find out who is a member of the latter group, and the eighth episode manages to achieve just that.

Oliver, Charles, and Mabel were last seen at a diner.

Just as Charles is about to contact Lucy, there is a power outage.

Charles is concerned for his pseudo-stepdaughter, who is waiting for him at the apartment after a photo of the two of them was found in the pocket of the glittery guy in the previous episode.

One of the most New York-like things to happen in this show so far has been a city-wide power outage, as there have been several in the real-world Big Apple during the past 50 years.

Only Murders in the Building has been doing a fantastic job of incorporating the setting into the show’s plot and making it an integral part of what’s going on for the past two years.

This week’s Northeastern flavor accentuates an increase in tension and the development of additional side characters.

Upon returning to the Arconia, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel are greeted by a horde of anxious citizens and frightened neighbors.

Oliver had difficulty climbing the stairs back to Charles’s flat because of the additional bag of dips he got from the restaurant.

This lightens the mood in an otherwise severe circumstance involving Lucy, the young victim of a break-in.

Presumably, the assumed assassin has chosen Lucy as a target because they know some essential details regarding the night of the murder.

The killer is brutal on her heels as she flees down a secret passageway beneath the building.

The moment the trio steps foot inside their place of business, they immediately grasp the gravity of the situation and begin their search for the missing woman.

On the other hand, Howard (Michael Cyril Creighton) is given his first substantial plot for some time elsewhere in the complex.

He has a crush on another occupant of the building and chooses to take advantage of the power outage to reignite the romance he has lost.

To get things started, he intends to go over and ask the man for batteries for his flashlight. However, the man has similar plans.

When they begin singing a duet of “Sound of Silence,” their fledgling romance truly takes off.

The rest of the Arconia hears the music and joins in on the fun. Oliver, trapped in the catacombs because of an escaped killer, can’t help but succumb to his desperation.

It’s good to see Lucy and her friends again, and she shares some information about the killer, which she learned about when she last saw him making his sneezing motions.

Howard’s date starts sneezing because of his cat allergy, which is depicted in the B plot.

The connection is most likely meant to confuse the audience, but it could be an essential detail in the last two episodes.

We also see how Nina (Christine Ko) is doing this time. She expresses her disappointment that we still don’t know who killed Bunny to the doorman.

The doorman’s response is to confess his remorse for letting the oblivious suspect in.

Even though this is a seemingly minor plot point, it is critical to the mystery’s solution.

The episode ends with Oliver, Charles, Mabel, and Lucy attempting to flee from the alleged slasher lurking beneath the building. However, Marv, a member of the podcast’s Fanclub, is revealed to be the man chasing them (Daniel Oreskes).

After helping them escape the real suspect, they allowed him to talk on their podcast in appreciation.

Mabel and Detective Kreps (Michael Rapaport) are set up for an action-packed penultimate episode when they meet again.

Mabel notices blood on Kreps’ neck when Howard accidentally shoves him while walking across the hall with his buddy.

It’s not clear what this means. And how will Howard fit in now that he’s been given a more significant part in this? There isn’t much time left to discover what’s happening!
