San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan said in a conference outside the Chula Vista Department that although they have not yet found May Millete’s body, they have enough evidence to solve the case and charge Larry Millete with murder.

“There is no evidence of any kind of violence,” Martinez said.
At the press conference, May Millete’s sister sobbed as she spoke to reporters about the alleged murder of her sister and the arrest of her brother-in-law.

Police and prosecutors say they now believe May Millete, a specialist hired by the Navy, was killed on or about January 7. Later, her relatives went to the house she shared with her husband and three children to see her, but she was gone. Her purse and her car were still there. On January 9, her sister called the police.

Stephan also revealed for the first time Tuesday that Larry had been visiting “spellcasters,” people who claimed to wield magical powers of persuasion before Millete disappeared in an effort to make her want to stay in the relationship.
“I’ve never had a case where this was involved … but when December 2020 rolled around, those messages for spellcasters were much more threatening,” Stephan said. “He was asking that Maybe incapacitated, that Maybe in an accident, that she end up with broken bones so she could stay home, thus showing her murderous ideas of harming May.”
Millete scheduled an appointment with a divorce attorney for January 12, Stephan said, adding that he was unable to schedule it for January 7 because a party was planned for his daughter’s birthday.
According to the prosecution, Larry Millete would have sent a text saying: “I think she wants to break me, and I’m shaking inside, I’m ready to break.”
Millete disappeared on January 7, disappeared without a trace, and left her three children, then 4, 9, and 11 years old.
“Detectives have shared clues and evidence about May’s disappearance with the multi-agency task force. Investigators have conducted numerous search warrants on physical locations, digital evidence, and social media content, as well as interviews with witnesses, to generate new leads and obtain evidence. Her family last saw her at her home around 5 p.m., two days before the family took a planned trip to Big Bear for their daughter’s birthday.

On July 22, investigators confirmed that Millete’s husband, Larry, was named as a person of interest in the case.
The statement came at a hearing on July 21 regarding a Firearm Violence Restraining Order (GVRO) issued at the Millete family home on May 7. Investigators were seen carrying what appeared to belong guns and boxes of ammunition outside the home.
In total, investigators have interviewed 87 people about Millete’s disappearance and tracked down 130 leads. 67 search warrants have been drawn up covering “residences, vehicles, mobile and electronic devices, call detail records, financial records, social media and cloud data,” according to police.
Maricris Drouaillat, Maya’s sister, and her husband Richard said their lives have been a nightmare and the mother of three disappeared without a trace. As for the appointment of Larry Millete as a person of interest, “it is not a surprise to us,” they said.
Family members and loved ones have been meeting weekly to form virtual prayer circles in honor of Maya Millete. They have also been organizing independent search parties at locations across the county, as well as fundraisers since his disappearance.
Since he disappeared, Millete has not responded to phone calls or text messages, according to investigators.
The researchers described Maya as 5 feet 2 inches tall and 105 pounds, with brown hair, brown eyes, and freckles. His family said he has a tattoo on his wrist.
