Liz Garbus, nominated for an Oscar for her documentary work, has agreed to direct Hulu’s upcoming miniseries based on the movie Orphan.
According to Deadline, Garbus will also be an executive producer on the show along with the main character, Ellen Pompeo. The miniseries is based on the true story of Natalia Grace, who was born in Ukraine and was given new parents.
Garbus became known for her work on documentaries like The Farm: Angola, USA and What Happened, Miss Simone? Both were nominated for an Oscar. She has also directed the docuseries “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark” and “Harry & Meghan,” which just came out. Garbus’s first scripted drama was an episode of The Handmaid’s Tale, which aired in 2021. The untitled Hulu project is his second scripted drama.
Katie Robbins will write and be an executive producer on the project. Erin Levy will be an executive producer and run the show. Mike Epps, Dan Spilo, Niles Kirchner, and Andrew Stearn, along with Calamity Jane creators Pompeo and Laura Holstein, will be executive producers. ABC Signature is in charge of making it.
