According to a Facebook post by his daughter, Lance Kerwin, a prominent child actor from the ’70s best known for his work in the groundbreaking ‘James at 15’ series, passed away on Tuesday. He was 62.
In addition, “Of Salem’s Lot,” the 1979 miniseries based on the Stephen King novel, helped make Kerwin a household name.
The native of California was a frequent player on shows like “Little House on the Prairie,” “Gunsmoke,” and “Wonder Woman” during that period. In the 1976 TV movie “The Loneliest Runner,” he reunited with Michael Landon from “Little House” for his tragic portrayal of a teenage bedwetter who goes on to win the Olympic marathon.
However, he became one of the best young actors of his time thanks to the NBC coming-of-age drama “James at 15” (1977–1988). Dan Wakefield, the show’s creator and writer, wanted to “give a more realistic representation of teenagers than was common at the time,” as reported by Deadline.
Most of Kerwin’s entertainment industry work throughout the ’90s came in the form of guest appearances on television. His final film credit on IMDB was for “The Wind & the Reckoning,” a 2022 leprosy drama film. With the new title of “James at 16,” Kerwin’s character decides to give up his virginity to an international student.
