Is The Movie Orphan Based On A True Story | Orphan Based On A True Story

The horror film ‘The Orphan’, released in 2009, swept billboards around the world thanks to its disturbing story … What many did not imagine is that the film is inspired by several real events that far exceed fiction. If Isabelle Fuhrman managed to scare you with her performance, wait until you meet Barbora Škrlová.

Produced by Joel Silver, Susan Downey, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jennifer Davisson Killoran, The Orphan tells the story of a married couple who decide to adopt an 8-year-old girl named Esther.

After several macabre episodes, it is discovered that Esther was not a minor but a 33-year-old woman with mental disorders and a disease called hypopituitarism that made her look like a little girl.

Is The Movie Orphan Based On A True Story

The film had a great impact, but what few knew is that the film was inspired by a true story that occurred in the Czech Republic in 2007. Its protagonist: a woman named Barbora Škrlová.

Škrlová was born in the Czech Republic and, like Esther, suffered from hypopituitarism, a condition where there is an abnormal decrease in hormones secreted by the pituitary gland, allowing her to look like a 13-year-old girl.

The story itself is much scarier and it happened in the Czech Republic. Klara and Katerina Mauerova were two schizophrenic sisters who lived together with the first’s children. They met Barbora Skrlová, 33, who, suffering from hypopituitarism, gave the appearance of being a 13-year-old girl and who had tricked a family into adopting her earlier.

He encouraged the schizophrenic character of the sisters. He incited them to join the sect “The Grail Movement”, whose leader was “The Doctor”, who communicated with his faithful by text messages by cell phone. It allowed child abuse, cannibalism, and other aberrations.

The sisters became radical and Barbora, jealous of the two children, accused them of doing bad things. Until he convinced them to put them in a cage and torture them in the basement. That was in 2007.

They put cigarettes on their limbs, burned and gagged them, whipped them with belts, tried to drown them. They were left naked, sleeping on their own excrement and urine. They were bathed with buckets of cold water. So Barbora decided to feed them abundantly to practice cannibalism with them.

Barbora and the two sisters cut pieces from the children and ate them. To control them, they decided to install video cameras. A neighbor who wanted to keep an eye on his baby caught his signal and handed everything over to the police.

Barbora posed as 12-year-old “Anika” and fled. One of the two children died, another testified at trial. The sisters held Barbora responsibly.

She was already in Norway and had been adopted by another family.

She was extradited to the Czech Republic and tried together with the other two perpetrators. The two sisters were sentenced to 12 years. She, only 5. The three appealed their sentences.
